It will be over before you know it!

It's the Friday before Christmas! The transit strike is over after 3 days (wow!), most of the shopping is done, the cookies are made and I'll be attempting homemade peppermint bark later today. The tree is up, presents are wrapped and will soon overtake the tree!

It's cute, isn't it? And all those presents! There's still a box full and more to come with the family!

Here are some smaller ornaments I made like the December birthday ones I made. I forgot to take a picture of all of them together so here are ones I didn't put on the presents yet. I'll put the one of me on the tree.

JP and Dad are flying in tonight so the whole family will be here soon. Last night we had dinner with my mom and dad. They made roast pork and spare ribs. YUM! Dad is taking us all out for dinner tomorrow night. I should forget about trying to lose some weight until after New Year.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

Wow! A Transit Strike!

Go here to make your own scrabble!

I didn't think they would do it, they are actually striking! The last time the MTA went on strike was in 1980. I don't have any real strong opinions about it since I'm not working right now and it's not really affecting me. I just want to get this down as it is history!

Welcome to the world!

I'm an auntie again! Maia Sedonia was born on Tuesday, December 13th. We went to visit Liz in the hospital yesterday and I totally forgot to take pictures. Duh. She's so pink! And she's got long toes, good for grabbing things like her Uncle Yves does. Liz will be home on Saturday so I'm sure I'll have some pictures soon.

Tuesday night was the Holiday Mixer and we went bowling at the Port Authority. It's really not a bad place! And the shoes looked pretty new. Here's this month's mix, it was a lot of fun to make and I really was singing along to all of the songs. Yep, I'm showing my age.

Satchet, Sashay!

I'm pretty confident that the people who I made these satchets for don't read my blog so I could post this.

satchetsblog.jpg
It's made from an old t-shirt, one of the infamous head shots printed onto iron on paper and sewn. I also put some lavendar in them along with the fill. My glue gun crapped out after making 1 so I had to use tacky glue for all the others. A little messy but I think they came out ok. The fuzzy ribbon worked better than the silver one. Since these turned out so well, I'm going to make some for Christmas as gift tags but they won't be as big.

In other news, I think this new apartment has bad internet vibes. Friday the cable modem was soooo slow. The funny thing was that it was still online but loading pages was slower than dial up! It was still messed up on Saturday so I called Cablevision and they sent someone over on Sunday. Of course Sunday it seemed to be running ok. Now it's being slow again! WTF?! Someone was supposed to come today between 11 and 2 and it's now 1:20 and they just called saying someone WON'T be able to make it out today after all. WHAT THE FUCK?! That is just so annoying. Does that mean that a lot of people are having trouble with their cable modem because I'm pretty sure not a lot of people have the actual cable since there are so many satellite dishes around here. So I'll have to wait for Thursday.

Snow=Sew!

Today we woke up to about an inch or 2 of snow. The first of the season, I believe. It was a cold and overcast day so I took this opportunity to practice my sewing. First up, a tote bag!
totebagsewblog.jpg
ok, it's not very pretty, I used old sheets to practice on and the pattern from the Sew Fast So Easy book. It's got a lining and a pocket! I don't think I did too bad considering this is only the 2nd real time I'm using my machine. Since I was on a roll, I decided to tackle the curtain!
curtainsewblog.jpg
I didn't make it, don't get excited! It was one big curtain I had to cut it in half and then sew the hem along the sides. We took the doors off the closet and wanted to hang a curtain instead. This curtain was from our old apartment. It wasn't too bad even though it was a long piece, about 7 feet!

Suck on this Verizon DSL!

empirestreetartblog.jpg
Ok, I don't really mean to be that harsh with Verizon DSL but really, they suck! After a ton of calls, being put on hold, being told different things by all the different people I spoke with, I finally put in the towel and decided to cancel. Optimum Online was coming on the 1st to put in cable modem and I told myself if Verizon DSL doesn't figure out what the hell the problem was, Sayonara baby! So I called on the 31st to cancel and miraculously someone decided to tell me the truth (or so I think!) Apparently, Verizon DSL was having this $14.99 DSL promotion (even tho we opted for the more expensive, faster speed DSL) and they've been overloaded. My "slot" was for mid December, meaning by mid December I should be up and running. HA! What the fuck is that bullshit? So do you mean to tell me everytime I've called and had to be put on hold and run through diagnostics, it was all for nothing? They gave me a 60 day credit so I won't have to pay for anything and if I decide I don't like cable modem (so far it's great!) I can still have the same slot and won't have to start from the beginning again if I canceled. I took this credit because I figured it didn't hurt and that was before Optimum came and installed the cable. They came on the 1st, earlier than the appointment even! After a minor snafu on their end and then our end, we're up and running and I couldn't be happier!
