mail, mail, yay!

More great mail art has made it's way to my mail box! I also found a new site to get addicted to but more on that later, let's see some art!

Here's a piece from Barb in Washington State, Hawaiian themed:

And from Bobbie in IN and her modern look:

And Barb sent me another one that came Saturday:

Aren't they fab?! So the new site I found that I'm getting addicted to is Postcrossing. Request an address to send a postcard, input your address in and wait for your mailbox to fill up with stuff besides bills!

Happy Lunar New Year! It's the year 4704 and the Year of the Dog. Here's a card I made and sent out to all my friends instead of Christmas cards.

A Happy Mailbox

Yesterday I received my end of the jewelry swap I participated in here. It's a gorgeous piece and I'm so happy I didn't get the short end of the stick! I put it on right away!

JEswapblog1.jpg

Sima made the suede cording tie in the back so I can adjust it to whatever length I want. I think I'll put a hook back there to make it easier to put it on once I figure out the length. Here's a close up of the beads.

Art in the Mail!

I recently put a call out for some mail art in exchange for some rubber stamps that I haven't used in years. I used to be a huge rubber stamper back in college and even before that. I had a gigantic collection, mostly which I sold but I still had a box full of stamps that I put on wood myself. I still rubber stamp but not nearly as much as before once I started finding other mediums and became more of a computer geek. Well, the ladies at my new favorite site, Kat's Pad came through with some terrific mail art. Here is what I have gotten so far, and there will be more coming too!

This came through the mail exactly how Sue from Virginia sent it. This is the front.

My feet hate me

bbhorblog.jpg
horizon shot of Brooklyn Bridge from the summer of '05.

Yesterday we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge after eating in Chinatown since it felt like spring. My feet hate me! I did not wear the proper shoes and it didn't help that we were standing for 2 hours after that. We went to see a slide lecture of an old friend of ours, Gary at Postive Focus. You can see his work here and here. I applaud his work and have a lot of respect for him that he does this. He mentioned that most people walk by the homeless because it's just easier and safer not to get involved and that it was easier and safer to look at his pictures of the homeless instead. Yep, that's me. I felt bad at first that he pegged me but I shouldn't apologize for it. That's just the way it is.

A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

I am totally in love with the DCFC song Soul Meets Body. I know it came out months ago but I never really listened to the words until I watched them perform it on SNL this past weekend. How can you not love lyrics like

Cause in my head there's a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
where they're far more suited than here

and then

I do believe it's true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
If the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you're the only song I want to hear

UPDATE! Someone was kind enough to upload the video from SNL here

Well aside from listening to this song over and over, I finished the scarf I was crocheting for Yves. It's super long, down to his knees, the way he wanted it!

and look at Skippy in his little jacket. Good thing we got that for him as it was FREEZING yesterday and we also got some snow.

Road Trip to Jersey City!

Last year at the Coachella festival we enjoyed the delectable delights of In and Out Burger. I do admit to enjoying it (we went twice for goodness sakes!), Tammy and I felt that Fatburger was way superior. To our delight, I do believe it was Pete that found a Fatburger location in our area! A road trip to Jersey City was talked about for months and months. It finally came into fruition yesterday, January 13, 2006. Yes, Friday the 13th. Unfortunately, our dear friend and drummer, Tammy, ended up having to blow us off to {gasp} work! Here are some pictures of our goofy adventure.

Goofing off on the path train. We had only 1 stop from the WTC path to Exchange Place.

We made it to Fatburger! Joy is ready for some serious eating.

FB2blog.jpg
I couldn't resist getting their homemade onion rings.

FB3blog.jpg
Joy got the chili cheese fries and a fatburger with cheese, fried egg and bacon!

FB4blog.jpg
We shared their "real strawberries" strawberry shake. I'm not a big shake fan but it did taste really good and did have real strawberries.

Fatburger, we'll be back!

A New York institution is gone!

lentospizzablog.jpg
Yves and delicious Lentos pizza.

I was VERY, VERY, VERY upset to learn about the closing of my favorite pizza place, Lentos. See the story here. I guess some people were upset over the closing of the 2nd Avenue Deli but I think this closing is way more sad. I mean, I had no clue they were going to close! If I had, we would have made a final hurrah there to last a week! Last time I was there, I was talking with a customer who knew the owners and he mentioned something about family troubles but did he mention closing? I DON'T THINK SO! Sniff, sniff. Where are we going to get delicious thin crust pizza now?

My favorite icon!

camicon02.gif
Check it out, I found out how to make those little icons that go into the url line of your browser! I always wondered how to do one and I stumbled upon the directions from thimble. Unfortunately, it only seems to work in firefox (which everybody should be using anyway) and netscape. Can't figure out how to make it work in safari. Screw IE, I won't even bother with that browser! Of course I can't figure out how to change it in the archives or individual date postings. Oh well.

Krappy Kamera Krap!

This is the second year I entered Soho Gallery's Krappy Kamera competition and the second year I did not get chosen. I'm going to try not to get discouraged as I am positive there were tons of wonderful entries that did not get picked. I really thought I had a chance this year since I did not have to send in slides but actual prints instead. I was a little surprised that I got my entry back so fast, a week later! I wondered if they gave it a real good look or if they already picked the winners since I put my entry in on the very last day. I hope that was not the case cuz that would suck! Anyhow, here are the photos I entered. Do you think they suck?

I can't wait to see the show and see what has gotten chosen. Last year there really were some wonderful shots but there were also some shots that made me wonder what the judges were thinking!

It's a brand new year!

I actually hate New Year's Eve. I don't believe in the whole stigma about having to go out and celebrate when everybody and their mother are out getting drunk. Just because the calendar says it's a new year doesn't mean you need to go out and feel like a loser just because you don't. But I don't want to rain on anyone's parade so I won't go on a tirade.

dimsumnewyearblog.jpg

Today we went to dim sum in the neighborhood with Mom, Dad, Yves, JP and Pete and Fredo joined us as well.

petenfredoblog.jpg

myfavedimsumblog.jpg
This is my favorite dim sum dish. I'm not sure what it's called in English. It's basically carb and carb! It's this fried bread wrapped in a rice noodle with a soy sauce type sauce on top. I love it!

After we ate, we went back to our apartment and played Bogus and Loaded Questions. Bogus is a game where each player takes turns reading true or false statements and you bet on whether it is true or false. The first person to reach 1 million dollars is the winner. Loaded Questions is a game where you have to answer questions about yourself and the opponent has to guess whose answers are whose. They were both real fun!
