Dial up sucks

LESmotorcycleblog.jpg
I thought it was pretty funny that this motorcycle in the Lower East Side had a sanitation sticker on it.

I'm still stuck in dial up land and it really sucks. Verizon DSL really sucks because they can't figure out why it's not working and everytime I call and get a different person, I get a different answer. I'm really giving them the benefit of the doubt but really, my patience is wearing thin. Optimum cable is scheduled to come on Thursday so if Verizon can't get their act together, they are losing us as customers. I've never really had problems with their phone and wireless service but apparently their DSL is not up to par. Sigh...the drama continues.

And I got high, high, high, high

Ryanlookingatmeblog.jpg
Ryan is looking at ME!!

Friday night was the Ryan Adams show at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center as part of the free music series, like Buddy Guy and Jeff Tweedy. It was FANTASTIC!! There wasn't an opener so they played for over 2 hours. I bet if there wasn't a curfew, he'd have played all night. Ryan was in a good mood and talked a lot in between songs. He even came late and said he couldn't find the venue. He was playing mostly songs from Jacksonville City Nights and Cold Mountain. I was kinda hoping he'd play more older songs but that's ok. He did play a slower version of To Be Young which was kinda cool although I like the speedier version better. And he was drinking whiskey, that's my boy! Minnie Driver came out and sang "Games" with Ryan. We saw Norah Jones on the side but I guess there wasn't time for her to come out and play "Dear John" which was perfectly find with me! Dave from CDMOM offered up the extra VIP tix he had and Brenda took it. She went to check out the VIP party afterwards and tried to get us to sneak in but said there really wasn't much going on and left shortly after getting there.

He's the man who loves me

JeffandNelsblog.jpg
Went to see Jeff Tweedy play Wednesday night as part of the Wall Street Rising Music Downtown Series. He was awesome! Nels Cline, Wilco guitarist, opened up and he did 'experimental music' and let me tell ya, it was torture. It was kinda cool for the first 5 minutes but 35 minutes of that stuff was just insane! Quite a few people walked out and hung out in the hallway. Joy left to smoke 2 cigarettes! Jeff came out about 10 after 9 and played till about 10:40 including 2 encores. He was great and had some really funny banter in between songs.
Tonight is Ryan Adams as part of the same series and I can't wait!!

I'm still on dial up and it's driving me insane! DSL is supposedly working but apparently something might be wrong with the line. They are going to come out on Monday to check the inside and outside lines. This is not a good sign.

Buddy Guy-Wow!

BuddyShemblog.jpg
Last night me and Joy went to see Buddy Guy as part of the free music series downtown (Wall Street Rising) held at BMCC. Man, everything was fantastic! Yes, I'm getting old when I appreciate a seated venue, getting inside within a reasonable time and when all the acts start on time! The 'commemorative' ticket said that you had to be at the venue between 7 and 8:15 to redeem it for a real ticket and then after that, tickets will be given away to stand bys. We got there around a quarter to 7 and the line wasn't too bad, maybe 5 to 10 feet long. We were in the doors by 10 after 7 and got pretty good seats. Besides it being hot in there, it was a real nice place! Shemeka Copeland came on at 8:20 and she kicked ass!! What a voice on that woman! She played until 9 and Buddy Guy came on at 9:15. Woohoo!! Hardly a wait at all. He was freakin' amazing! I wish I had my better camera with me but oh well. He is certainly a legend. He played for an hour and a half and at one point even came into the audience and went all the way to the back and up the stairs. Pretty sweet!! Oh yeah, John Mayer came out near the end as a 'surprise' and then Shemeka came out, which is what this picture is of.

Alfama!

Last night I went to Alfama, a Portuguese restaurant in the West Village. OH MY GOODNESS! Everything was absolutely delicious! Every single thing! The appetizers, the wine, the dishes, the dessert! We started off with the cheese plate, 5 wonderfully stinky cheeses and this awesome apricot sauce. Next was the flaming chorizo!
flamingchorizoblog.jpg
Joy and Stone both got the filet mignon that comes out raw and you cook it to your liking on the stone granite it comes out on. Freakin' awesome!

I got the pork with clams and I've never tasted pork so tender that it melted in my mouth! Nuno got the chicken dish that tasted a bit Malaysian and also melted in your mouth!

That being said, I can't wait to go to Portugal for the truly authentic deal!

Out of touch and outta my mind!

I was going crazy today because I couldn't get online to check my e-mail. It's been a whole week since I've been online and while missing a week of checking the websites I usually frequent on a daily basis was not a big deal, being without e-mail was driving me crazy! I felt like I was so out of touch with everyone and everything. Isn't that just crazy? I went to Starbucks today because I thought their hotspot was free but it was not, you have to have TMobile. I just never paid attention before. Then I went to a cafe in my old 'hood that advertised free wireless dsl but when I went there, it wasn't working and the counter girl didn't seem to have a clue. What a waste of my time! So when I got home, I called Verizon and signed up for dial up service. Since the DSL won't be on until the 16th, at least I got access albeit dial up. And I can cancel within 30 days and get a full refund. Hallelujah! I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.

Anyway, the move is over and done with! Wow, I never thought it would be over. Yves borrowed the mini van from his sister and last Wednesday we made 3 full trips. Since it was a weekday, it was just the 2 of us loading and unloading all the crap. I HAVE A LOT OF STUFF!! Thursday the movers came and as we suspected, they charged us more because they didn't know all the crap we had. They were even saying that it might take 2 trips!! But they managed to fit everything in and most of the stuff came over unharmed, just a couple of nips but nothing too bad considering it was just 2 guys and my crazy mom yelling at them. Here are some pics of the chaos.
