J. Lidell at Bowery

My friend Pete took me to see Jamie L at Bowery last night along with Nate. I was not familiar with his music but he described him as being a 70's style soul singer from the UK. Well, from his show, you would not have known that! He was rocking his laptop with beats as he sang over them and he was quite funny. He was awesome and a lot of fun! And that's despite the fucking obnoxious bee-yatches next to Nate and Pete that were drunk off their asses and clearly only there because the 2 industry guys they were with got them in there for free in the hopes of getting laid. We ended up moving and actually got up a bit closer. Here are some pics, not the quality I was hoping for but the floor was literally shaking from everyone moving and dancing. Super talented guy and you should definitely check him out if you get an opportunity. I know I'm going to check out his set at Coachella! Thank you Pete for taking me!!

Fuck the Radio

Apr06frontblog.jpg

Apr06backblog.jpg

Last night was the April mixer, moved from last week due to taxes, Easter and lack of time. We had it at Art Bar in the West Village. Pretty cool place with a fireplace and sofas in the back and booths with a totally different vibe in the front.

My mix this month pays homage to the internet and how I discover new music. I don't listen to New York radio anymore, maybe for five minutes in the car, while pluggin in my Ipod or longer if I forget it. I realized that I would be getting to see (or hoping to see) a couple artists on my mix at Coachella this weekend. So they might repeat for next month's mix. Hmmm, I'm sure people won't even realize!

Fatburger Round 2

Yesterday we made the trek once again into Jersey City to eat at the 'last great hamburger stand' for the 2nd time. I have to say, it tasted a lot better than the first time and the first time was good too. Yves and Tammy joined us on this round.

Heaven in a bottle

sweetleafteablog.jpg

Oh Mint and Honey Sweet Leaf Tea, we are together again. I was so excited to discover that Sweet Leaf Tea now had an online store and I immediately placed an order for 2 cases of 64 oz bottles. It came out to $6 a bottle with the shipping, which wasn't terrible. It came on Thursday and boy was I a happy camper!

I first discovered this wonderful tea (Snapple has nothing on them except being everywhere) while in Austin, Texas for the Austin City Limits Festival in 2004. After walking for what seemed to be forever, in search of a restaurant we never found, me and Joy stopped off at a convenient store to get something to drink. Being a big fan of mint, I immediately grabbed the Mint and Honey green tea. Joy got the Raspberry tea. Oh, heaven! It was the perfect mixture of mint, not too much and not too little. The honey gave it the perfect sweetness and it was love. It was easy to find in Austin because that's where the tea is from. Back in New York, I had to special order the tea from a health food store in Queens. I horded those 2 cases for months and was too lazy to place another order. I was sure they would have expanded more by now but at least I have the online store for those emergencies.

Mail art and swaps continued

Still catching up with everything and as I started yesterday, here are some more creations!

I made these lavendar satchets for a swap on Kat's pad. They were fun to make but also reminded me that I still can't sew that great! HA!

Here are 3 ATCs I did for a swap on swap-bot. You have to make 3 for 2 partners and so far I've only received 1 set from 1 partner. They were only due to be sent out last Friday so it's still early in the game. I'm still waiting for swaps that were due 2 weeks ago!!

Postcards and swaps

I've been a little lax in updating my blog in terms of stuff I've received and sent out so I'm going to make one big entry.

My friend Pete wanted to jump on the bandwagon of filling my mailbox with fun stuff so he started sending me these great Chronicle Books postcards. He'd include quotes and tidbits from OverheardinNY.com. At first I didn't realize it was him because he didn't sign them, even though he said he was going to send me stuff. Here are a couple of my favorites:

And my favorite quote and OverheardinNY.com tidbit:

I recently did an altered trinket swap with the ladies from Kat's pad. Here is the one sent to me from Barb. I wanted an Asian theme:

And here's the one I did for Barb. She wanted a woodsy theme. The side is a quote from Henry David Thoreau, Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.

Getting some color

animalsunbathhissblog.jpg

animalsunbathblog.jpg

We've been having such amazingly warm weather lately. We let the animals out onto the porch yesterday so they could enjoy the day too. Neo just loved it and these pictures just cracked me up with him rolling onto his back like he was really sunbathing. I couldn't decide which picture I liked better so I thought I'd just post both of them.

Hoppy Easter!

Happy Easter!
I don't celebrate Easter religiously. Actually, I don't celebrate Easter at all but seeing as this site is called the bunnylog, I felt I should acknowledge it somehow! So here ya go! Me in bunny ears with Neo.

Oh Ben!

harperACLblog.jpg
Ben at ACL 04

I went to see BH last night at the Supper CClub with Joy. He was awesome! He played for 3 whole hours! Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures because they made me check my bag in. I did not anticipate this since I usually bring my smaller bag and only brought my larger one because I went to pick up my negatives. Blah. So I thought I would put up one of my favorite pictures I took of Ben at ACL in 2004. The venue was pretty small, smaller than Bowery. He came on at 8:30ish (no opening band! Yay!) and finished at 11:30ish. He played both new and old songs.

Totonnos

Last week or so, Yves had Friday off so I took him to the "World Famous Spumoni Gardens" in Bensonhurst.

Today we went to Coney Island, it was opening day. Nathan's had a long line so we decided to be a bit healthier and go to Totonnos.

Both different and both equally as delicious! We are still missing the thin crust goodness of Lento's in Bay Ridge. Also different than these 2 but also equally as delicious!

Some recent pieces I did for a Handmade Card round robin on postcrossing. Unfortunately, you can't tell from the scan but the stamping along the top in the first one is glittery embossed. The 2nd one, the music sheet is stamped in a pearlescent ink.

I took part in a collaboration on the toycamera site. The theme was self portraits. I was trying for more of a defined profile but they never seem to come out the way I envisioned.

Greenwood

Yesterday me, Yves and JW went to Greenwood Cemetery to shoot some pictures. It was a beautiful sunny warm day, I think in the early 70's, at least! The cemetery is HUGE! Daylight Saving Time screwed us up and it got late so fast. We had a bit of trouble finding our way out of there. We'll have to look for Bernstein's grave another time.
