Skippy vs Neo

skippyneoblog.jpg
Taken with Lubitel2

I so wanted this to work. It would have been better if Neo was looking at us instead of outside. Oh well.

These 2 images were used in the new fotolog book.

I have to say, initially, I was really excited with the book. It came out very well and I know that a lot of work had been put into it. Then I looked up Yves picture and it's tiny! In the intro section. I think that really SUCKS! And really unfair. Why freakin' bother? I'm sure many people may have been forgotten and not included and you can't really please everyone and people's feelings will get hurt but for goodness sakes, this is SHUGGY for crissakes! I'm sure half those people in that book aren't even on fotolog anymore! Truly disappointed. I know that fotolog isn't officially affiliated with the book.

AC at Webster Hall

nixnoltescelloblog.jpg
Storsveit Nix Noltes

Last night me and Nuno went to see AC at Webster Hall. First we had dinner at Elvie's Turo Turo for some kick ass Filipino food (ya gotta check it out!). We got to the venue around 8:30 and the first band hadn't come on yet. They came on around 9 and I didn't catch their name. They were a bit ear piercing at times but also had some interesting moments kinda electronica, ambient, jammy, not much vocals...They played for half hour and shortly after their set, the second band came on, Storsveit Nix Noltes.

A nine piece band from Iceland that included a kick ass cellist, trombone, upright bass, banjo (?), accordian, guitars and drums. They were awesome and totally worth admission. They sounded very Eastern European, not much vocals (seems to be the theme of the night), folky and jammy. They played about 45 minutes.

AC came on a little before 11 and I'm sad to say I was a little disappointed. I was expecting them to blow my mind. The first couple of songs there wasn't much singing, just sounded like chanting. There was a delay effect on the vocals throughout the whole set and I found that annoying. The guitars were too spacey sounding and just wasn't cohesive to me. I was kinda frustrated after the first 20 minutes but we braved it out for a little over an hour hoping for some little piece of golden nugget. We left a little after midnight.

Ready for Spring!

0306coverblog.jpg

Last night was the March mixer at Antarctica in Soho. Pretty spacious bar with a pool table and booths.

0306insideblog.jpg

It was a pretty low key night, it was hard to mingle sitting in a booth and the bar was very warm.

Lightleaks

CIbeachlightblog.jpg

I just got my copy of Lightleaks Magazine, which has this photo printed in it. The theme was Nobody: Where has everyone gone?. I took this shot in the fall at Coney Island with my Lubitel 2. I think everyone involved did a great job. You should go get a copy!

Hello Joe!

tjblog.jpg

Today was the grand opening of the much awaited Trader Joe's store near Union Square. I was much too busy shopping and trying not to bump into too many people inside to take anymore pictures. It was packed! Joy, Richard and I lunched on Indian food before heading over. We thought going at 3 might be ideal, most people would be at work. HA! I don't know where all those people came from, I didn't see too many young college kids, they were mostly my age and older. Don't you people have work?! Or did you all take off of work like Joy? Haha. I mostly bought snack munchies. The wine store was not yet open.

BBQ hangover

DBBappblog.jpg

Last night was the inaugural meeting of the Bite of the Month Club and we started it right at Dinosaur BBQ. Fan-freakin'-tastic! We started off the evening with some appetizers. Fried Green Tomatoes (original style of course!), Creole Spiced Devil Eggs and Jumbo BBQ Chicken Wings with the Hotter garlic chipolte sauce. The picture above shows all this (sorry it's crappy! Too close + flash + hungry = crappy picture!) and as you can see, the wings certainly are jumbo!! Everything was delicious and we ate it all!

My dish after giving half my brisket out!

Next was our entries. We all got combo plates that involved ribs and some other meat. I had the beef brisket with mac and cheese and creole potato salad, Joy had chicken with mac n cheese and beans, Bill had sausage with BBQ fried rice and Syracuse salted potatoes and Laura had pulled pork with beans and fries. Do I have to say it again? Ok, DELICIOUS! By far the best BBQ in New York City! The ribs just fell off the bone! I have to say, my favorite of the other meats was the sausage. So flavorful without being salty.

Laura's in there!

We did pretty good in finishing our dishes and Laura and Joy had to take a mid-meal smoke break. Needless to say, we were all in food comas.

And can you believe we managed to find room for dessert? We got the Chocolate Box pie which involved dark chocolate filling in an oreo cookie crust.

TNP/B&S at Nokia

BSticketblog.jpg

Went to see TNP and B&S at Nokia with Nuno, Alison and Joy. It was the first time at this venue and it felt like I was going to the movies. I didn't know it was underground. There was seating in the back, 4 gigantic chandeliers, 2 coat check areas and 2 bar areas. It was bigger than I thought and the sound wasn't too bad. When we got there a little after 8:30, NP were playing. I really enjoyed their set and wished it was a little longer. Then this band called "A Matter of Trust" came one. They were saying something like they met the NPs at a festival in Denmark. They said "please don't blog this tomorrow." Then they proceeded to sing the Billy Joel song "Matter of Trust" and it was kinda funny. The four of us cracked up laughing and I'm pretty sure we were among the very few that knew the song and who sang it originally, as in lots of youngsters at the show. Then B&S came on around 10 and played until about 11:40 with an encore. It was a fun show even though we were kinda in the back and had to shuffle around in order to get a good view. I didn't take any pictures because I couldn't figure out how bad the consequences would be. On one hand, I saw a few cameras without any question (small, pocketsize ones) and then I saw a bouncer tell a guy he had to check in his camera and his camera looked a bit more professional and my camera was somewhere in between. So, oh well, I have the ticket as a souvenier!

It's No Secret!

Here is the Valentine's day card I made for my honey. I know it's a little late but better late than never! I got it from the book Suprisingly Simple Novelty Cards. I only made one from the book but it was really surprisingly simple!
