The White Stripes at Keyspan

They were rocking!! M. Ward and The Shins opened up (both acts were great!) and The White Stripes hit the stage at about 9:15, played til 10:05 and then came out for their encore for about another 40 minutes. The sound was pretty good at this venue but standing around for that long was pretty tiring. Here are some pics, I only had the little pocket camera with me, was nervous to bring the better camera since the ticket said 'no cams.' and since I never been to this venue before I didn't want to chance it. Now I know!

Jack was taking polaroids of himself and Meg throughout the night and throwing them into the crowd. This last shot is of them taking a polaroid of themselves.

Ipod cozy and Neo

woohoo! I finally crocheted a little cozy for my ipod. It's not much and this is the 2nd version since the first version would fit a pack of cigarettes better than my ipod! I didn't sew the button on yet but was just excited that I finally made one! I haven't done much crocheting lately.

and I couldn't resist taking some pictures of Neo. This one looks like he's doing a self portrait! He's so cute. I'll have to remember these times because as soon as Skippy comes, his life won't be the same!

MOJO aid

debbieharrycloseupblog.jpg

I've been on vacation all week, you'd think I would have updated my blog earlier. HA! Anyway, Sunday night Joy and I went to Irving Plaza for Mojo Aid, Jesse Malin put together this benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. There were a lot of musicians on the bill so they all played about 20-30 minute sets. We were mainly there to see Ryan Adams but I was also excited to see Ted Leo and Debbie Harry. There was supposed to be a big surprise guest at the end, which I didn't stay for and I'm glad I didn't because I heard they never showed up. Among the other artists playing were Joseph Arthur (his set was bad timing since he played acoustically after a few rocking bands and he got boo-ed a few times, which I think is very very rude!), Marah (a pleasant surprise), Butch Walker (also a pleasant surprise), and er other people that I don't remember. David Johansen was "host" although he didn't come out til after over an hour into the show. I didn't even bother taking pictures during Ryan's set since the stage was just way too dark and I suspect he likes it that way. A lot of people left after Ryan's set, which I thought was unfortunate cuz Debbie came out after him. I was disappointed that she only played 3 songs but she still had her groove.

The Big E!

shuggydonutsblog.jpg

Yesterday was Yves' birthday and we went up to Western Mass. to attend the Big E! Our road buddies were Peter and Meredith and we drove up Friday night. We stayed at Peter's sister Joanne's house. Good peeps! All good peeps. Saturday we woke up bright and early and after having yummy egg sandwiches made by Peter's other sister, Lori, we went on our way!

Doves @ Apple

I am so glad I took off from work today to go down to the Apple Store to see Doves play. They cancelled out of Coachella in April due to Jimi's throat problems. They played Webster Hall earlier this year but I kinda hate Webster Hall and last night they played Warsaw in Brooklyn. The reason I didn't go to that one is because I couldn't understand why tickets were $30 when all the other shows they played across the country were $12-15. I know they are playing Across the Narrows in a few weeks, I'm going to the Saturday show only. Anyway, even though it was only 35 minutes, it was awesome! Now this is an intimate venue! I got there around 1:50 and there were a few people on line already. They shuffled us in at about 2:45. I was in the second row! Jimi was right in front of me! So freakin' cool! Now I kinda wished I went to see them last night but if I had a choice between seeing them last night or seeing them today, I'd have picked today.

double bridge, my first meme, football and Hurricane Katrina

double bridge

So, I've been tagged for my very first meme by Jen.

Here are the rules for the meme:
1. Go into your archive.
2. Find your 23rd post (or closest to). I think I'm too new to have a 23rd post!
3. Find the fifth sentence (or closest to).
4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.
5. Tag five people to do the same. I don't know if I know 5 other bloggers!

So guess what? I just counted and this is the 23rd post! HA!
So, here is my 23rd post's 5th sentence:
4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.

That cracks me up! It's not very exciting but it cracks me up. Ok, so I'm passing this along to some people that might not even know I have a blog!
Alan, Bill, Francis, Tread and Dave

I joined the football pool at work. It was only $10 for the whole season, chump change but I figure it would be fun. It's nothing fancy, no spreads or anything, just basic "pick the most winning teams this season" is the winner. So it looks like I'm leading the pool the first week with 11 teams I picked winning. It will be 12 if the Eagles get moving tonight. So far they are losing.

Don't forget to go check out the photo I have on auction to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Go over and make a bid!

MTA

subwayblog.jpg

Sometimes I really hate the MTA. Sure it can take you anywhere in the 4 boroughs for $2 but when you have to ride it on a daily basis, you develop this love/hate relationship. Sometimes I think, "wow, I live in one of the best cities in the world and I could get anywhere I want to go at any time of the day." That's on good days when your subway ride is smooth and groovin'. Of course I was not as fortunate as Tammy to have witnessed a domestic dispute and an act of fellatio all in the time frame of 24 hours. I don't get that much excitement aside from the occasion smelly ass bum begging for money.

I don't understand the MTA. Last week, before leaving for work, Good Day New York said that the N line was running on the D line because of some problem or another. I was really lucky to have known that because do you think the MTA told the riders on the subway? Nope! I got to 59th St and there were a ton of people on the platform waiting for the N train. I didn't get off because I knew. I happened to catch the D when I got to 36th Street and wouldn't you know, when I'm on the bridge, I see the N train on the other track practically empty! It probably came right after the D I got on. Then today, I'm on the N and we're pulling into 36st. The conductor says that due to a train stuck at Pacific street, they will be delayed and if we could, to use the R train coming in on the local track. So, me and a bunch of people go over to the R. Wouldn't you know it but as soon as we got on the R, the freakin' N train doors start closing!! WTF?

sigh...ya gotta love this city tho!
